Australia to reopen to some visa holders!

Australian Premier Scott Morrison announced in a statement to the media on November 22nd that Australia’s borders would reopen to visa holders who are fully vaccinated and eligible to come from overseas on December 1st!

Who is ineligible?

It is possible to travel to and into Australia in December If you fall into one of the following categories:

  • Workers with skills
  • Students who have a student visa
  • Holders of a family visa with provisional status
  • Working Holiday Makers
  • People who have humanitarian visas

What are the rules?

The good news is that there’s no need to apply for a travel exemption!

However, you must:

  • Completely vaccinated by the total dose of a vaccine recognized or approved in the Australian government’s Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA)
  • Have a valid visa for one of the visa subclasses
  • You must show proof that you have been vaccinated.
  • Provide a positive COVID-19 test within three days of your departure from Australia.
  • Be sure to comply with quarantine rules for the country or state where you are planning your arrival, as well as every other territory or state you plan to travel.

Why is it that only a few visa holders are selected?

Prime Minister Scott announced, “Consistent with the National Plan to safely reopen Australia, These changes will ensure that we keep protecting our health for Australians while helping families reconnect and secure. Our economic recovery”.

He said that returning highly skilled students and workers to Australia will supply the vital workforce Australia requires and help the nation’s strong education sector.

Parents of Australians have the option of travelling Down Under.

Australia opened its frontiers to the parents of Australian citizens and permanent residents on November 1st.

Parents must apply for an exemption to travel and can only travel to territories and states that have achieved the 80% mark of double-dose vaccine targets.

Parents can also travel to ACT, New South Wales, Victoria and Tasmania at the moment of writing. South Australia could open for parents shortly because 78.52 per cent of its citizens are fully vaccination-free.
